Successful POS training at Island Hospice Harare, Zimbabwe
Island Hospice in Harare, Zimbabwe, was the first hospice to open in Africa. Island staff were recently trained in the use of the African APCA POS, and will soon begin validation of the 1st African version of the APCA African IPOS.
In this picture, Island nurse Bodheni Chenjerai conducts a home visit to a patient with HIV and breast cancer, and is asking her to score her pain using the “hand scoring” method. After the training, Bhodeni said “I didn’t realise that we could use POS to conduct assessment, that is a very helpful tool for us”. Monitoring and Evaluation Manager Goodshow noted the value to both individual clinicians and to the service level monitoring, and said “Using POS will actually lessen our workload”.
